Hiring report

Who was hiring in October 2026

What 43,751 new job postings on the JobQuill board say about which industries, roles and states were hiring, counted from postings that first appeared from October 1, 2026 to October 27, 2026.

These are JobQuill listings, not the whole job market. The board reads employers' own hiring pages and USAJOBS, so it leans toward large employers and leaves out jobs posted only on other sites. How we counted is at the end of this page.

Among industries with at least 500 new postings, office and admin had the highest share of entry-level titles: 314 of 846 (37.1%). Technology had 79 of 2,522 (3.1%).

Remote work was a small slice

2,285 new postings (5.2%) were remote. Among industries with at least 500 postings, finance and insurance had the highest remote share: 103 of 780 (13.2%).

How we counted

  • We counted every posting that first appeared on the JobQuill board from October 1, 2026 to October 27, 2026 (Pacific time), once, however long it stayed open.
  • The board reads employers' own hiring pages (Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters, Ashby, Lever, Workable and Breezy) and USAJOBS, which supplied 5,450 of these postings. The Remotive and Jobicy remote job feeds are left out of this report.
  • We added new employers to the board during the month, so this report compares shares within October 2026 only. It does not say whether hiring rose or fell.
  • Industry and role come from matching each title to our role catalogue. Entry level and senior are read from the title alone, so a job open to beginners that does not say so in its title is not counted as entry level.
  • 31,839 postings were in the United States by their listed location; most of the rest had a location we could not read.
  • Pay is left out: too few postings state it in a form we can read reliably.
