Why I built JobQuill
JobQuill is a job tracker that counts every rejection as a step forward. It started as the tool I needed for my own search.
The search that started it
The first time I was let go from a job, I did what most people do. I opened a spreadsheet and started applying.
The spreadsheet kept a list, but it could not tell me anything. The same posting showed up on several boards. Rejections arrived minutes after I hit submit, with no reason attached. I had rows, not answers.
By the end I had sent 155 applications. They turned into 2 interviews and 1 offer.
Most of those 155 ended in a no or in silence, and each one felt like failing at the time. Looking back, every one of them was part of the road to the offer that came.
So I built the tool I wanted
I'm Justin Domingos. I've worked in IT for about six years, and I'm currently studying Computer Information Technology at Point Loma Nazarene University.
I started building JobQuill for my own search. It went through several versions and a few names before it became what you see here: one place to log every application, keep your resume ready to send and find live postings, with Quill, the beaver in the glasses, there after the no to help you take the next step.
What JobQuill believes
Rejection is redirection
A no is information, not a verdict. JobQuill counts it as a step forward, and Quill's support after a rejection is free on every plan.
Numbers are measured, never made up
Every count you see in JobQuill comes from what you actually logged. If the app can't measure something, it doesn't pretend to.
The free plan is a real plan
Unlimited applications, the Job Board, a resume on the Harvard format and your career roadmap all work without paying.
Less stress, not more
A job search is heavy enough. The point of JobQuill is to take some of that weight off, one small step at a time.
Who's behind it
JobQuill is made by JobQuill LLC, a small California company that I run.
