The Research Laboratory Manager 2 manages day-to-day laboratory operations and supports research programs focused on cancer immunology and immunotherapy. The position provides administrative, operational, and technical leadership for laboratory activities involving immune profiling, cellular and molecular immunology, translational oncology, and human specimen-based research.

The manager oversees laboratory personnel, ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements, manages financial and laboratory resources, facilitates acquisition and implementation of new technologies, and supports collaborative research efforts across the OSUCCC, PIIO, and College of Medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing laboratory operations, scientific resources, budgets, and personnel.
  • Experience supporting biological, immunological, molecular, cellular, or translational research programs.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, regulatory compliance requirements, and quality management principles.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative research environment.
  • Successful completion of a background check and any required pre-employment screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cancer immunology, melanoma research, immunotherapy, or translational oncology.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, immune monitoring assays, T-cell biology, human specimen processing, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience supporting federally funded research programs and complex collaborative projects.
  • Experience managing laboratory personnel in an academic medical center or cancer research environment.
  • Knowledge of clinical and translational research operations.
  • Experience with grant administration and laboratory financial management.

Additional Information

The OSUCCC – James is the only cancer program in the United States that features a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center aligned with a nationally ranked academic medical center and a freestanding cancer hospital on the campus of one of the nation's largest public universities. The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative dedicated to advancing transformative cancer immunology and immunotherapy discoveries.

Research supported by this position encompasses basic, translational, and clinical investigation focused on understanding antitumor immune responses, mechanisms of T-cell dysfunction, immune checkpoint biology, melanoma immunology, cancer vaccine development, biomarker discovery, and novel immunotherapeutic approaches designed to improve outcomes for patients with cancer.
