Job Summary

The IDCS Systems Engineer will be a highly skilled and motivated individual with extensive experience in Linux, networking, scripting, and data center technologies. This role involves developing custom scripts to automate processes, supporting large-scale deployment of systems, networks, and solutions, and ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

The Systems Engineer will analyze, configure, deploy, and validate complex hardware solutions within customer-defined architectures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving, technical troubleshooting, and communication skills to enhance system efficiency and address application performance issues.

This position will work as a senior member of a team of engineers reporting to an Engineering Manager at the Data Center Factory (DCF) in Piscataway, NJ.

Role Description

  • Install, configure, validate, and troubleshoot data center hardware and software with proficiency.
  • Maintain internal infrastructure, network, and automation environments, including advanced debugging and troubleshooting of connectivity issues.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for complex system automation tasks to perform hardware configuration and verification.
  • Engage in learning new systems, technologies, and software as required by the business.
  • Develop procedures for automated builds and configuration of prototypes and first article builds, while creating documented processes for use within the production environment.
  • Assist team members in troubleshooting and improving the design of automation, information, and operational support systems.
  • Quickly and efficiently diagnose complex error messages to identify and resolve hardware and/or software issues.
  • Collaborate with internal Project Management and Quality Control teams to determine integration requirements, expectations, and timelines.
  • Recognize when issues need to be escalated to Senior Systems Engineers or IT.
  • Demonstrate reliability and accountability by seeing tasks through to completion.

Skill Level Requirements

Intermediate Level (5+ Years of Hands-On Experience)

  • Ability to write, debug, and maintain code in scripting and programming languages such as Microsoft PowerShell, Bash, and Python to automate tasks and develop software solutions.
  • Ability to work in CLI-based environments.
  • Expertise in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting BIOS firmware and device drivers to ensure optimal system functionality and performance.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux-based operating systems preferred.
  • Advanced networking knowledge, including OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and routing.
  • Extensive experience within a data center environment and associated server, storage, and networking infrastructure.
  • Motivated, disciplined, and capable of producing quality results under pressure.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capability to address complex, multi-disciplinary technical challenges.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering and Tier 2/Tier 3 IT Support, with a proven track record of successfully completing complex projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and other data center appliances.
  • Extensive experience with infrastructure automation tools such as xCAT, Ansible, Chef, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs.
  • Certifications such as RHCE, CCNA, VCP, or other technology-related credentials are preferred but not required.
  • Work-related travel up to 15% as needed.
  • Ability to move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as business needs require.

Other Requirements

  • Preferred Working Schedule, Monday through Friday, on-site at the Piscataway, NJ facility:
  • 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM, or
  • 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
