Audio-Visual Installation Technician

As an AV Installation Technician, you will work alongside a highly collaborative team of technology professionals responsible for deploying and maintaining audio visual systems across Cornell University. This is a hands-on position where no two days are exactly alike. You'll coordinate with internal partners, contractors, and vendors while managing multiple projects that support Cornell's world-class academic mission.

About the Department

Cornell Information Technologies' Audio Visual Services team supports the university's teaching, learning, and collaboration environments through innovative AV and classroom technology solutions. Known for its strong team culture, collaborative approach, and commitment to excellence, the team delivers high-impact technology projects that directly support Cornell's faculty, staff, and students.

What We Need

Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise, initiative, customer service, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree with four to six years of experience in audio-visual installation, low-voltage systems installation, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of audio-visual system components, installation practices, and audio-visual signal flow.
• Experience installing, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting audio-visual and low-voltage technology systems.
• Ability to interpret and work from technical documentation, including system schematics, wiring diagrams, and architectural drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders within a complex enterprise IT environment.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting project deadlines.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to safely lift, move, and install audio-visual equipment and materials and climb ladders as required to perform installation and maintenance activities.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications and technology tools required to support installation, configuration, and documentation activities.
• Commitment to workplace safety, adherence to established procedures, and continuous improvement of technical skills and service delivery.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license. Out-of-state employees must obtain and provide proof of a NYS license within 30 days of starting employment; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites.
• Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

• AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or Certified Technology Specialist - Installation (CTS-I) certification.
• Experience working in higher education, enterprise technology, or other large and complex organizational environments.
• Experience with audio-visual control systems, digital signal processing (DSP) technologies, and network-connected AV devices.
• Familiarity with digital signage systems, media player provisioning, and content distribution technologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Experience using ticketing, project management, asset management, or audio-visual support systems.
• Knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies related to audio-visual installation and support.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, and multiple stakeholder groups in support of technology installation projects.
