Role summary

Entry-level engineer supporting optical cross connect and patch panel assignment, tracking, and forecasting across Meta's edge network footprint. Works inside Meta's internal tooling to plan and document fiber paths, and coordinates daily with vendors, field technicians, and Meta FTEs to keep optical deployments on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Create, validate, and track optical cross connect (XC) requests through completion, including LOA/CFA documentation and vendor ticket follow-up.
• Perform patch panel port assignments and maintain accurate panel/port inventory records in Meta's systems of record.
• Forecast upcoming cross connect and patch panel capacity needs against project schedules; flag shortfalls early.
• Audit and remediate data discrepancies between design intent, documented records, and as-built field conditions.
• Drive vendor and colo provider deliverables: submit orders, track SLAs, escalate delays, and verify completion evidence.
• Support field resources during installs and turn-ups — provide port assignments, cable schedules, and troubleshooting documentation.
• Partner with NWI and ENS FTEs on scope reviews, readiness checks, and deployment handoffs.
• Collaborate with other MSP engineers to share workload, maintain consistent process, and cover queues.
• Contribute to runbooks, process documentation, and small workflow improvements that reduce manual effort.

Minimum qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in data center, optical/fiber, or network deployment operations (internships and technical coursework count).
• Working knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure: single-mode vs multimode, connector types (LC/MPO), patch panels, structured cabling, and cross connects.
• Ability to read and interpret cable schedules, rack elevations, and port maps.
• Strong attention to detail with inventory and records; comfortable working in ticketing and tracking systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication with vendors, field techs, and engineering partners.
• Ability to manage a queue of concurrent requests against deadlines with limited supervision.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working in colocation facilities or with colo/carrier provisioning processes.
• Familiarity with DCIM, IPAM, or network inventory platforms.
• Basic scripting or spreadsheet automation (Python, SQL, Sheets/Excel formulas) for reporting and data cleanup.
• Exposure to optical transport concepts: DWDM, transceivers, optical budgets, light level testing.
• Prior experience in an MSP or vendor-partner model supporting a large enterprise customer.

Success in the first 6 months

• Independently owns a cross connect and patch panel assignment queue with accurate, audit-clean records.
• Produces a reliable rolling forecast of port and cross connect demand for assigned sites.
• Recognized by NWI/ENS FTEs and vendors as a responsive, accurate point of contact.

Salary Range

$28.76 - $45.40 USD (Hourly)
