How it’s going (and growing)
With a talented team of 750+ Roofsters, our collaborative, can-do culture is what fuels our growth. In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in the Bay Area and New York City. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors). In 2025, Roofstock took an ownership stake in Casago (short-term rental management services), expanding our platform to support both long-term and short-term rental investment services.
About the Role
The Senior Property Accountant – Institutional will provide full cycle accounting support for the property management team, and function as a key member of the team. This role is responsible for communicating financial results to both external clients and management teams. The skills required to succeed in this role include strong accounting, collaboration, and communication skills.
Senior-Level Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary resource and subject matter expert for Property Accountants, providing guidance on complex accounting questions, technical issues, and day-to-day workflow challenges
- Respond directly to client inquiries regarding financial reports, account activity, and accounting-related matters, providing clear and professional explanations in a timely manner
- Act as a backup to the Property Accounting Manager, assuming managerial responsibilities in their absence including oversight of the team's monthly close process, distributions, and reporting deadlines
- Review and quality-check financial reporting packages prepared by Property Accountants as a backup to the Property Accounting Manager, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to GAAP prior to distribution
- Mentor and support Property Accountants in developing technical accounting skills and understanding of internal processes and best practices
- Assist the Property Accounting Manager in identifying workflow efficiencies, process improvements, and training opportunities across the team
Core Responsibilities
- Provide daily accounting functions for multiple regions
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports in accordance with GAAP –prepare monthly accrual journal entries, financial statement preparation/reconciliation and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly distributions to clients
- Review and maintain accuracy of general ledgers
- G/L activity posting, Balance Sheet reconciliation and maintenance of
- subsidiary ledgers
- Support Property Accounting Managers with ad hoc projects, monthly closes and distributions
- Monitor cash receipt postings, tenant billings, billing adjustments and perform tenant ledger reconciliations when necessary
- Review invoice coding and invoice workflow to ensure adherence to capitalization policies and timely payments to vendors
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure accounting accuracy and completeness of financial packages
- Ability to independently research historical cash transactions and provide
- Portfolio Managers and Regional Directors with timely responses
- Provide accounting detail and assistance to Property Accounting Managers for all internal and/or external auditors
- Research new accounting laws and regulations for different states as needed
- Prepare annual 1099 and 1096 reporting to vendors and IRS
- Prepare quarterly 592 and 588 forms to Franchise Tax Board on as needed basis
- Performs ad hoc assignments as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent preferred
- 3+ years of Real Estate Accounting experience
- Experience in Public Accounting highly preferred
- Proficiency using Excel and Google Suite products
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

This position must be located in Dallas, TX
Compensation
$83,000 - $95,000 range on annual base salary. Compensation may be adjusted based on experience, skills, and interview performance.
Pay Transparency
Our compensation reflects several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position represents the expected salary for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay it will be based on several factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and other job related factors. Roofstock is a total compensation company; the base salary is only a part of our total compensation package.
